Happy New Year!
Happy
New Year to all our players, coaches, managers and readers! In this issue of “Extra Time” we have all
the information you need on current and upcoming events at The
Soccer Center. We've taken advantage of our recent two-week
break to work on upcoming tournaments and plans for the third
session.
We've
had a very busy first 8 weeks of league play at The Soccer
Center and are interested in peoples' feedback as to how The
Soccer Center is doing. You can e-mail Todd Kingsbury with
your thoughts at
todd@farpostsoccerclub.com.
We're currently
in the mid-way point of session II so it's time to begin
thinking about session III. We're expecting leagues to be
filled to capacity as many teams use session III to prepare for
the outdoor season. Check out the game dates for Futsal
and 7v7 for your age-brackets. Then communicate with your
team manager ASAP of your desire to participate. To be
guaranteed a spot in session III, ALL teams must both register
online and pay in full by the deadline date.

Used Soccer
Equipment Needed |
 |
Do
you have any soccer equipment that you would like to donate to a
worthwhile cause? Can you get them to the Soccer Center office
by February 9, 2007? If so, your assistance and donation is
greatly appreciated.
Wendy Elles,
our Indoor League Assistant Manager and Far Post
Soccer Club’s Education Director, will be traveling to Tanzania,
Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, experience a jungle safari,
and spend some days at Mama India's Orphanage in Rift Valley
Children’s Village (www.tanzanianchildrensfund.org).
Lindsay
Hawley of the Far Post U14 Girl’s team will be traveling to Batey
Libertad (www.bateylibertad.org)
in the Dominican Republic to visit underprivileged soccer
players through the Grass Roots Soccer Organization (www.grassrootsoccer.org).
|
Both Lindsay and
Wendy will be running a number of soccer clinics and
teaching children on AIDS awareness. They would like to
take any soccer gear, including socks, shin-guards,
apparel, soccer shoes (specifically children’s sizes
10-4), balls, and any other soccer related equipment.
If you
can help, contact Wendy Elles at
wendy@farpostsoccerclub.com
or Lindsay Hawley at
LindsayHawley@wsdvt.org. |
 |
Bring
your equipment to The Soccer Center
before February 9, 2007. Bins will be located in the
North Building for drop-off.

Our

planned Co-ed divisions for U12, U14, High School and Adult. As with all our tournaments, each team is guaranteed
three 25-minute games and the cost is $150 per team. Don't
delay - register today for this fun-filled event!
Planning ahead?
Adult men and women won't want to miss the
St. Paddy's Day Shenanigans Futsal
tournament
on Saturday,
March 17. College seeking high schoolers should plan on
attending the High School College
Showcase 7v7 Tournament on March 31. We are
very excited to have
The Windjammer Restaurant
sponsor this new event. Details of these two
tournaments will be coming very soon! In the meantime,
save the dates!
Jarred
Williams Tournament
Our
5th
Annual Jarred Williams Tournament was a huge success with
a record 52 teams participating, making it the largest
tournament we've held in the past five

7v7 New Rules
We are always looking to
improve our games and facility and after having experimented
with three new rules during the Jarred Williams Tournament,
we've
decided to add them to our 7v7 game for the second and third
sessions.
- Throw ins. All
balls that go out of play to the sidelines will be thrown in
(regular soccer throw-in).
-
If
the ball contacts the ceiling or roof netting, a direct free
kick is awarded to the opposing team from one of the 3 spots
nearest to where the player was standing when the ball was
played.
-
All ball kicked from a goal kick, punt or
thrown in from the goalkeeper or field player must hit the
ground or a player before going over midfield. If the ball
does not hit the ground or a player, a direct kick is
awarded to the opposing team at the center dot at midfield.
We believe
that the addition of these rules will enhance our 7v7 game and
after having played to the new rules during the first week of
games, the feedback from players and coaches has been very
positive.
